Good morning, afternoon, or evening (where ever your fashion filled life lies) lovelies,
So, I awoke to find it to be snowing outside (cheers!) however, I'm sick with a cold and all I feel like doing is laying around like a bump on a log...yes, that makes me sound sad, doesn't it?
Anywhoos, the topic of this posting is the thin line there is when it comes to boots and mini skirts.
I, for one, have had a troubled past with these two-age 7; pleather boots, matching skirt, A.K.A. I was a wannabe J.Lo. But, fortunately, I have come a long way since then and I'm open to sharing it with you.
Let me break it down for you into two sections first, and then I'll tie it all up with a pretty ribbon at the end.
Boots:
Don't you just love these babies?! Whether they're fur-lined Uggs you're ashamed to own and love for their least-fashion-ality (I admit, I'm a Ugg-er & that's probably not a word...) or motorcycle boots (p.s. no motorcycle needed there), boots are a staple of winter. But I'd like to focus in one one section of the boot-o-sphere, the heeled knee high.
That just sounds like a class-less disaster waiting to happen, doesn't it? But no need to fear, if done right they can be tres chic.
When it comes to heeled boots, the higher the better. Sorry feet, but if the heel is clunky, rectangular, and kitten-heel low it can turn into a wannabe witch bootie. Not cute. So, go for a thinner heel.
Now onto the fabric. Just stay away from pleather. Please, do it for my ignorant 7 year old self. Personally, when you get into knee-high boots I think pleather, leather, and that weird silky nylon mix just don't work if you're planning to wear them out in the open, for the world to see (under dress pants or jeans, you rock whatever you want ladies!). I say this because (heeled) knee highs are tall, hence the name knee highs, and do you want your calf sweating in faux leather? Plus, there's something about a couple of feet of leather on your legs that reads...well, trashy. (However, if the boot doesn't go over your knee and is a couple inches below, with no other leather in the outfit, they do look super cute, in the winter)
The solution, suede! They give the boot a more sweet appeal, and won't clash with the leather Birkin bag you'll carry (wink, wink).
Mini Skirts:
Ah, the mini skirt, the fashion conundrum. How to wear one with out looking like a lady of the night? Make sure it's long enough! I feel ridiculous for even saying this, but if you bend over and everyone can see your days of the week underwear (and notice that you're wearing Tuesday on a Friday), it's TOO SHORT. Make sure the hemline is covering everything, be a lady, cover it up. And if you happen to have a slutty moment in nordstroms, and buy one that is barely two inches under your bum, add dark black tights, cross your legs, and make sure you're wearing the correct day of the week underwear.
So, how do you exactly mix the (heeled) knee high boot and the mini skirt?
(Well if you knew, you wouldn't be listening to me...)
It's simple once you get down two rules.
1) Make sure the world knows you have legs.
If the top of your boot and skirt are practically on top of each other, then you need to go get a new outfit. One of the worst things you can do for your legs is to create a small gap of skin showing on your thigh, knee cap, or wherever. The inch of skin your showing is not flattering, and neither is covering up your whole body with the fabric. I get it, it's cold in the winter, but add some tights, and it'll look uber fab!
2) Class it up.
Please, for the love off all the ponies, and unicorns, and cottan candy in the world, don't walk around like a slut. If you're going to wear a mini with some boots, wear a LOOSE, and SOPHISTICATED top. Like I have above, a simply silky button up not tucked in will look effortlessly amazing, and totally classy. If I see any one of you in a bustier, mini, and boots..........................how about we don't let it get to that point. Just cover up on top, because trust me ladies, if you're wearing a mini skirt and high heeled knee high boots, we'll know your gender without your boobs out for the world to see.
In conclusion, just remember a few things-high over short heels, suede over leather (most of the time), cover up your hoo-ha, black tights are your friends, leave a big enough space between the two items on your legs, and finally, class it up.
And finally, it's a mini skirt and booties sweets, it's not meant to be My Little Pony sweet; go a little edgy!
It's an obsession really,
xoxo. Rachel
P.S. Here are some example I totally approve of!!
